Stampriet: Chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council, Simon Kooper, on Friday launched a week-long clean-up campaign at Stampriet in the Hardap Region. The campaign, which runs from 20 to 28 February, aims to promote environmental cleanliness, strengthen community pride and improve the overall well-being of residents.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kooper, who also serves as councillor for the Mariental Rural Constituency, said the initiative seeks to encourage residents to take ownership of their surroundings and work collectively to maintain a clean settlement. Speaking at the launch, Hardap Governor Riaan McNab said the campaign goes beyond the collection of litter and reflects the values of the community.
'A clean environment reflects a responsible and dignified society,' McNab stated. He urged residents to recognise that maintaining cleanliness in Stampriet is a shared responsibility and should not be left to a few individuals. He added that cleanliness must become a daily habit and way of life, particularly as Stampriet serves as a gateway for visitors and potential investors travelling through the village.
'A clean environment can help attract investment, which in turn creates employment opportunities as we continue to fight unemployment and poverty,' he said. The campaign will include community mobilisation initiatives and coordinated clean-up activities throughout the settlement.
