Otjiwarongo: Supplementary voter registration officially commenced in the Otjozondjupa Region's seven constituencies Monday morning. The registration exercise is aimed at issuing new voter cards to eligible first-time voters and replacing lost voter cards in order to enable participation in the regional council and local authority elections in November this year.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, reported that registration teams were in place by 08h00 and did not experience any technical issues. Registration will take place daily from 08h00 until 19h00 from Monday until Saturday, with Sundays reserved for uploading collected voter information.

Amutenya noted, 'Registrations at Otjiwarongo, where I am based, started smoothly on Monday morning but at a very slow pace. Some centres had only registered five people by 12h00, which is normal for us with the supplementary registrations as the majority of people are registered and have their voter cards.'

A total of 52 teams have been deployed for the supplementary voter registration, which will continue until 19 August 2025. These teams are working in the constituencies of Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Okakarara, Okahandja, and Omatako. The teams are equipped with all necessary election materials to print voter cards for individuals who have turned 18 this year and those who have changed constituencies or town localities.

Amutenya emphasized the importance of targeting those who lost or damaged their voter cards and those who never had a chance in 2024 to register and acquire their cards for them to participate in the regional council and local authority elections on 26 November 2025.
