The Swapo party’s Kunene regional structure on Monday announced Kazepanda Tjambiru as its candidate for the Opuwo rural constituency by-elections set for 02 July 2021.

The announcement was made by the party’s regional coordinator Tuarunugua Kavari during the party’s regional leadership conference held in Opuwo.

He said Tjambiru is the only endorsed party candidate for the said elections and therefore, members should go out in numbers and vote for the much-needed change in the constituency by casting their votes for Tjambiru.

He also said the party’s regional leaders have been at the centre of Kunene regional development projects and will therefore continue to do so under Tjambiru at the helm of Opuwo rural constituency.

On his part, Tjambiru stated that should he emerged victorious on 02 July, he will endeavour to bring the much-needed development, in terms of better road networks, electrification of rural areas, supply of clean water and the upliftment of youth and women through education.

Tjambiru further said together with the constituency leadership, he will strive to engage all stakeholders and involve everyone’s input on the constituency’s developmental projects.

The former soldier-turned-politician served the Swapo party as Okatuwo branch section leaders from 2007 to 2010 and later on as Okatumba West branch coordinator from 2010 up to date.

The Opuwo Rural Constituency Councillor vacancy came about after the death of PDM’s councillor Cornelius Uaurikua Kakuva, in April 2021 due to COVID-19 related illness.

Last month, ECN cleared five candidates to vie for the councillor position in the by-election set for 02 July this year. The candidates are Heinze Hariki Maundu of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO), Western Uakaisiua Muharukua of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), Kaiho Rikambura of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Kazepanda Tjambiru of the Swapo Party and Howards Kaihepere Tjituri from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC).
