Tehran: The 42nd edition of the Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) concluded here Friday with the announcement of winners in various categories. The festival, which ran for six days, showcased a diverse collection of works from over 50 countries and regions, including China, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United States.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the festival's International Competition section featured a global selection of over 90 works this year. These films spanned multiple genres, including AI-generated, animated, experimental, and fiction films, as well as documentaries. The festival's website reported that the event has been held annually in Tehran since 1983 and is regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious film events in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In 2020, TISFF gained further recognition when it became a qualifying event for the Oscar award in the short film category by the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This status has contributed to its reputation and significance within the global film community.
