Gobabis: Three suspects who were reportedly found in possession of cannabis worth N.dollars 338,750 on the Trans Kalahari-Gobabis Road in the Omaheke Region last week, were denied bail when they appeared in the Gobabis Magistrate's Court.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the accused, Chalton Van Wyk, 33, Brandon Lombard, 29, and 19-year-old Revaldo Hoxobeb, were denied bail when they appeared in court on Friday due to the seriousness of the case. The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Omaheke region, Chief Inspector Fina Sakajengenga, stated that the trio were charged with dealing in dependence-producing substances and obstructing and defeating the ends of justice.

"The trio was denied bail due to the seriousness of the case, and their next court appearance is on 04 June this year," she said. The cannabis weighs about 6,775 kilogrammes.

It is alleged that a red sedan vehicle occupied by the three male suspects was spotted twice on the Trans Kalahari-Gobabis Road on 18 February 2026, which made officers suspicious about its movement. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to do so, and after a long chase, the vehicle came to a standstill next to the road. One suspect fled on foot, carrying plastic bags into the nearby farm camps.

Two of the three suspects were arrested on the spot with the assistance of the Drug Law Enforcement, Border and Infrastructure Protection Unit and a local community-based K-9 security entity, while the third suspect was arrested later on the same day after a long pursuit by the police. Police seized the cannabis and booked the vehicle in as an exhibit. Investigations continue.
