Windhoek:Namibia is set to import around 345.3 million liters of petrol and diesel over the next three months following the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy's decision to award the bulk fuel supply contract to the TotalEnergies bidding group. This contract, running from November 2026 to January 2027, involves TotalEnergies' trading arm, TOTSA, as the primary supplier.According to Namibia Press Agency, the decision includes the supply of approximately 246.9 million liters of diesel and 98.4 million liters of petrol. The first shipment is expected to arrive in November, ensuring a stable supply for the country during this period.The open and competitive bidding process, known as BPIC-RFP 01/2026, resulted in a winning bid that offers a discount of 61 cents per liter on diesel and 71 cents per liter on petrol. This results in an average discount of 63.85 cents per liter across both fuels, translating into a saving of approximately N$220.5 million compared to the current supply arrangement.Amutse, w ho announced the outcome, highlighted that all four companies that submitted bids offered discounts to the Basic Fuel Price (BFP), a marked shift from previous rounds where premiums were common. He emphasized that the savings would benefit the national fuel price slate managed under the National Energy Fund, aiding in maintaining stable pump prices for motorists and the economy.Bids were evaluated based on qualification, price, risk to security of supply, and each bidder's track record. The competition among the bidding groups was credited for achieving this favorable outcome. Amutse expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the bidding process.
