Washington: US President Donald Trump has described his communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin as "rational."

According to Namibia Press Agency, Trump revealed to the OutKick news portal that he and Putin have engaged in "very rational discussions." Trump emphasized his desire to see an end to the violence, stating, "I just want to see the people stop getting killed."

The US president also mentioned his long-standing acquaintance with the Russian leader, expressing satisfaction with the continuity of their good relations since his first term in office. This assertion comes despite ongoing allegations concerning Russia's interference in US presidential elections.

The report further details that on March 18, Trump and Putin engaged in a two-hour-and-a-half phone conversation. Discussions centered around resolving the Ukraine conflict, with both leaders expressing a mutual interest in normalizing relations. They highlighted their shared responsibility in ensuring global security and stability, according to the Kremlin. During this call, Putin agreed to Trump's proposal for a 30-day cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure. However, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine attacked an oil depository in Russia just hours after this presidential dialogue.
