Windhoek: Two motorists survived a head-on collision on the B1 road about 10 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo shortly before 12h00 on Friday. Namibian Police Head of Traffic, Commissioner Petrus Swartz, told Nampa at the scene that the two drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.
According to Namibia Press Agency, one of the vehicles, a pickup, was coming from the direction of Okahandja, and the other, a sedan, was travelling in the opposite direction. "It seems like the sedan driver was overtaking on a solid line while the pickup was also at close range and consequently ended in a head-on collision, causing slight to serious injuries to both drivers," he said.
The police and emergency service personnel from the Otjiwarongo Municipality fire department had to use the jaws of life to remove the trapped sedan driver, who broke his legs and sustained injuries to his back and head. Swartz thus urged drivers to adhere to all traffic rules and regulations in order to maintain safer national roads for all users.
Police investigations into this accident continue.
