Kampala: The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced its commitment to host a successful Rugby Africa Cup in 2025. This prestigious tournament, which also serves as a qualifier for the World Cup 2027, is scheduled to take place from July 8-9 at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Godwin Kayangwe, President of the Uganda Rugby Union, stated that efforts are in full swing to ensure the competition's success. He emphasized the dual significance of the event as both a continental cup and a World Cup qualifier, underscoring the need for meticulous organization and a strong performance from the national team.
The tournament will feature teams from Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Namibia, Senegal, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Morocco. Uganda is set to kick off its campaign against its arch-rival, Kenya, in a match that promises intense competition.
Fred Mudoola, head coach of the Uganda Rugby Cranes, expressed the team's determination to secure victory in the Rugby Africa Cup 2025. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but stressed their commitment to hard work, aiming for a Cup win that would secure direct qualification for the World Cup 2027. The runner-up of the tournament will have another chance to qualify through the Asia/Africa play-off.
