Okakarara: An unidentified person was burnt beyond recognition when the Nissan NP200 pick-up they were driving collided with a tree and burst into flames in the Okakarara area, on Saturday morning.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, stated on Saturday afternoon that the remains were retrieved from the vehicle and transported to the Otjiwarongo police mortuary. The remains were later transferred to Windhoek for forensic examination to assist with the identification of the deceased.

Mbeha explained that it is suspected the lone driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a tree near the Otuvingo village in the Okakarara Constituency. This incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, between 01h00 and 02h00.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the vehicle was traveling from the direction of Okaepe village towards Okakarara at the time of the accident. Mbeha mentioned that due to the destruction caused by the fire, the vehicle's registration number plate and color could not be established at the time.

Police investigations are ongoing.
