Hanoi: Vietnamese women who give birth to two children before the age of 35 will be eligible for financial support and priority access to social housing under a draft Population Law presented to the National Assembly on Wednesday.

According to Namibia press Agency, the proposed law aims to address falling fertility rates and a high gender imbalance at birth.

The report states that the proposed legislation includes provisions to extend maternity leave by one month for women having a second child and to grant men an additional five working days of paternity leave. These measures are part of a broader strategy to encourage family growth and support gender equality.

The draft law also emphasizes the importance of incorporating gender equality and anti-sex selection measures into community codes of conduct. As part of these efforts, medical practitioners who disclose a fetus's gender for nonmedical reasons would face suspension of their professional licenses, thereby addressing the issue of gender imbalance at birth.
