WHO donates computer equipment to NSA

The World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Namibia on Monday donated ten laptop computers worth N.dollars 211,169.61 to Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) in the capital.

According to WHO Country Representative, Charles Sagoe-Moses, the donation to the NSA is to help the latter produce the second Mortality and Cause of Death report 2018-2020 by mid-year 2022, adding that this support includes funding of over N. dollars 200 000 for capacity strengthening in coding and reporting, equipment and technical assistance for the process.

‘We believe that these will help the agency’s capacity to produce this report and other timely statistics.

We are confident that the NSA will continue to play an important role in producing and disseminating relevant, high-quality, timely statistics and spatial data that is fit-for-purpose in accordance with international standards and best practices,” he stated.

According to NSA Chief Executive Officer, Alex Shimuafeni, NSA understands and appreciates the importance of administrative records and their role in the production of official statistics, and death and birth registration records are one of those key administrative records that NSA has prioritised for the production of vital statistics and cause of death statistics.

‘WHO remains a key partner of the NSA in terms of statistics production, particularly health statistics and WHO has already made commitments to continue supporting the NSA,’ he said.

Shimuafeni added that he accepts the donation with renewed faith in their development partners’ commitment to improving the health of Namibians through the use of quality statistics.
