Witbooi Calls for Private Sector and NGOs Support in Creative Industry

Windhoek: Vice President Lucia Witbooi has called on the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support the Government's efforts in addressing the challenges facing Namibia's creative industry. Witbooi made the call in Windhoek during the 20th graduation ceremony of the College of the Arts (COTA), where around 30 students graduated.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Witbooi emphasised that the work of creative students has the potential to diversify the national economy, while also enhancing the physical and mental well-being of Namibian communities. She urged the graduates to apply their knowledge and skills to inspire change and advocate for social justice. Witbooi also highlighted the importance of being innovative and leveraging modern technology and collaboration to amplify their impact.

COTA Rector, Angelika Schroeder, stated that the institution is committed to further developing the country's creative industry. The aim is to showcase Namibian talent on the global stage while contributing to national development. Schroeder highlighted that the College of the Arts has plans to grow the creative industry to ensure it remains a vital part of the nation's development.

COTA alumnus Hesron Kapanga also addressed the graduates, reminding them of the opportunities ahead. He noted that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has prioritised the creative industry in Namibia's Sixth National Development Plan. Kapanga urged the graduates to make full use of the skills they have acquired, emphasizing the President's ongoing focus on the creative industry.
