Alashankou: Alashankou, also known as Alataw Pass, a primary land port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has managed over 4,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train trips this year as of Wednesday. This milestone was announced by China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Xinjiang's railways have expanded border port capacity with a vision to enhance the China-Europe freight rail service by 2025. This expansion supports Xinjiang's development as a major Eurasian logistics hub, serving as a gateway to the west.
The railway sector in Xinjiang has seen significant improvements following the commencement of the Jinghe-Alashankou double-tracking project last year. A new container line has been added via Alashankou Station, and two existing lines have been upgraded. These efforts have led to a 30 percent increase in the efficiency of China-Europe freight train handling. The station now manages over 21 China-Europe freight trains daily, with peaks reaching up to 30 trains.
Currently, Alashankou Port offers 124 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train routes that connect 21 countries, including Germany and Poland. The port facilitates the transportation of over 200 categories of cargo, including new energy vehicles and machinery components.
