Gobabis: Head coach of Omaheke's Debmarine Premier League outfit, Young African FC, Maleagi Ngarizemo, stated that the team's achievement of securing second place in the league was a result of arduous effort and did not come easily.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ngarizemo's remarks came after African Stars were crowned Premier League champions for the 2024/25 season on Sunday, following their draw against Mighty Gunners in Otjiwarongo. He conveyed his thoughts to Nampa on Wednesday, expressing that the 2024/25 season presented numerous challenges, but he was grateful that the club concluded the season as the second-best team in Namibia's elite football league.
The Gobabis-based club faced several obstacles, including relocating to Windhoek due to a lack of a training ground, the withdrawal of Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) players mid-season, and a lack of sponsorships. Despite these hurdles, the team managed to secure a top position. Ngarizemo praised the players, backroom staff, and supporters for their unwavering support during these challenging times.
"This is a remarkable achievement that we must be proud of," Ngarizemo remarked. He emphasized the significance of the players' commitment and efforts in both the league and the MTC Maris Cup competition, dedicating the club's success to them. The team's main goal was to avoid relegation, and Ngarizemo expressed gratitude for their progress despite assembling in a short period.
Looking towards the future, Young African FC is considering participation in the Confederation Cup and plans to discuss this prospect with the Namibia Football Association's Head of Competitions. Ngarizemo acknowledged the tremendous support from the Omaheke regional leadership and affirmed the team's commitment to promoting the 'Mighty Omaheke' through sports. He also mentioned plans to officially thank individuals who supported the team at the end of the season.
The Debmarine Premier League has one remaining match before the season concludes.
