11 Killed, 4 Injured in Highway Accident in Southern Afghanistan

Helmand: At least 11 people were killed and four others critically injured in a highway accident in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, according to a statement released by the provincial police on Wednesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the tragedy occurred in the Kariz region of Washir district, along the highway linking Herat to the capital, Kabul. A passenger bus collided head-on with another vehicle, resulting in the deaths of 11 commuters on the spot and leaving four others injured.

Preliminary investigations indicated reckless driving as the cause of the crash. All injured individuals were shifted to nearby health centers, where medical staff described their conditions as critical.

Fatal road accidents are common in Afghanistan due to poor road conditions, reckless driving, difficult terrains, overloading, overtaking, and overspeeding.
