Aguachica: At least seven Colombian soldiers were killed and 30 wounded after a guerrilla group attacked a military base in the country's northeastern city of Aguachica, the national army reported.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the National Liberation Army (ELN) used drones equipped with explosives in the attack, which was described as a "terrorist act." The ELN's actions violated human rights and international humanitarian law by putting local populations at extreme risk, the army stated.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro commented on the situation via the social platform X, attributing the incident to a lack of advanced anti-drone systems. He announced the immediate procurement of these systems to prevent future attacks by illegal armed groups.
General Francisco Cubides, commander of the military forces, stated that intelligence and operational measures will be strengthened to counter the ELN's terrorist activities.
