Washington: A new survey released on Friday reveals that Americans are divided over who is to blame for the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the YouGov survey found that 32 percent of respondents blame Democrats for the shutdown, 35 percent blame Republicans, and 28 percent hold both parties equally responsible. Compared with a previous survey conducted in mid-October, the share blaming Republicans has dropped by 4 percentage points, while those blaming both sides equally has increased by 4 percentage points.
The survey also indicates that about one-third of Americans feel the shutdown is affecting them either a great deal or somewhat, up from 21 percent who reported the same a month ago. The U.S. government shutdown, which began on October 1, has entered its sixth week following the Senate's failure on Tuesday to advance a short-term funding bill proposed by Republicans for the 14th time.
While both parties remain entrenched in a war of words, the impact of the record-breaking U.S. government shutdown has continued to spread, affecting multiple areas of everyday life, including aviation safety and food assistance programs.
