Yerevan: Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that a sustainable peace with Azerbaijan should be founded on mutual benefit, a principle he considers crucial for lasting stability in the South Caucasus. Speaking at the international forum Orbeli 2025, Mirzoyan highlighted the importance of tangible advantages for both Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as other regional states, from current and future agreements.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mirzoyan expressed his conviction that mutual benefit would ensure the durability and longevity of the peace agreement to be signed, along with the declaration already adopted. He noted that neither Armenia, Azerbaijan, nor Trkiye would have an interest in violating these agreements, a sentiment that extends to other countries in the region.
The minister underscored that peace would allow Armenia and Azerbaijan to enhance their sovereignty, pointing out that conflicts often enable external actors to advance their own interests. He remarked that conflicts create an environment where third countries can exert influence over the parties involved.
Mirzoyan further explained that no state is entirely independent, as countries are linked through trade and other essential relations. He stressed that strategically, sovereignty can be bolstered, and these interconnections should be viewed as a strength rather than a weakness.
The peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was initialed on August 8 in Washington, D.C.
