Munich:Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalized after collapsing during a training session involving the club's reserve team. The incident occurred on Friday, and the Bundesliga leaders have confirmed the situation.

According to NAMPA, the 40-year-old Belgian coach is undergoing medical examinations at a Munich hospital and will remain under medical supervision. Kompany was observing the Bayern reserves' training session when the incident took place, prompting an emergency helicopter to land at the training ground.

Kompany will temporarily step away from his coaching duties. Assistant coach Aaron Danks, along with the remaining staff, will take over training and match responsibilities until further notice. Max Eberl, Bayern's board member for sport, emphasized the club's commitment to Kompany's health, stating they will do everything necessary to aid his recovery.

Kompany had been battling a viral infection since last week, which affected his preparations and limited his role during Bayern's recent 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig. He missed several training sessions and was absent from the pre-match press conference before Bayern's Champions League match against Arsenal. Despite returning to the touchline for the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Kompany admitted to pushing himself too hard while unwell.

The exact cause of Kompany's collapse remains unknown. As a result, Bayern will face Freiburg on Sunday without Kompany on the touchline. Bayern currently leads the Bundesliga standings on goal difference, tied with Borussia Dortmund at 14 points from six matches, while Freiburg is just one point behind in third place.
