Oshakati: The Faith Foundation boxing exhibition is set to continue as planned this Saturday at the Oshakati Independence Stadium. This was announced by Dennis Tobias, founder and chairperson of the Faith Foundation, who addressed a media conference on Thursday in Ongwediva.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Tobias' announcement follows a recent warning issued by the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (NPBWCB) to the public regarding the event, which they had deemed unapproved. The NPBWCB stated that no formal documentation or approval had been submitted for the 'boxing bonanza' featuring ex-professional boxer Harry Simon, which was being widely advertised with ticket prices, indicating a commercial tournament.

The Board further highlighted that Faith Foundation is not licensed under the Namibian Boxing and Wrestling Control Act (Act No. 11 of 1980), which mandates that all boxing events, including exhibitions and public sparring, must be approved and licensed. They warned that unlicensed events could be shut down by police, with violators facing fines or imprisonment.

However, Tobias indicated that the Faith Foundation is fully aware of the requirements set forth by the boxing board and is committed to fulfilling them before the event. "Tomorrow (Friday), we will submit all documents as per the requirements by the boxing board," he confirmed. He then assured the public that the exhibition would proceed as planned, with the official weigh-in scheduled for Friday.

Tobias explained that the event is poised to be a significant community initiative aimed at combatting crime and fostering positive community engagement, particularly among the youth, "by going beyond the thrill of the ring." The main event will feature a much-anticipated rematch between Paulus 'Ninja' Shimweefeleni and the undefeated Harry 'The Terminator' Simon. Their previous encounter in December last year ended in a draw.

In addition to the boxing, the bonanza will include entertainment from popular artists such as Ras Sheehama and Tate Buti. Tobias urged the community to show up in large numbers to support what he described as a worthy cause.
