Namibia’s senior national football team played a one-all draw with Congo in their Group H 2022 World Cup qualifier in Brazzaville Thursday night.

The match, which was monitored online by Nampa, saw both teams miss dozens of chances in an entertaining game which saw captain Peter Shalulile continue with his fine form and open the scoring for Namibia in 42 minutes.

Prior to that, Shalulile had twice seen his efforts cleared off the line, while Joslin Kamatuka suffered the same fate twice, once from a tight angle and again from a header.

However, there was no denying Shalulile when he slammed home a loose ball from inside the 18 yards after Congolese defenders failed to clear a Wesley Katjiteo shot, which hit a defender before bouncing off Denzil Haoseb and falling onto the path of the Mamelodi Sundowns striker.

It was Shalulile’s second successive goal for the national team after he scored Namibia’s consolation goal against Senegal in the Brave Warriors’ last game against Senegal, which Namibia lost 3-1 at Orlando Stadium.

Namibia went into the break leading 1-0 before the hosts equalised through Guy Mbenza in the 52nd minute, poking the ball into the back of the net from a clever reverse through pass by Wilfrid Nkaya.

Both teams continued fluffing their lines in front of the goal, with substitute Wendell Rudath shooting wide after being put through by fellow substitute Elmo Kambindu.

Congolese goalkeeper Henri Mofoumbi denied Shalulile a goal with a great save after the Brave Warriors striker found time and space in the box to control, turn and shoot at goal.

The match ended one-all and saw Namibia remain third on the log, level on five points with Togo, who are second on goal difference.

Senegal drew one-all in Lomé with Togo to move to 13 points and have already qualified for the second qualifying round.

Congo remains at the bottom of the log with three points from three draws after five matches.
