Epukiro:The Constituency AIDS Coordinating Community (CACOC) has elected a new executive committee (exco) in Omaheke's Epukiro Constituency, marking a significant step in its mission to enhance public awareness of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB).

According to Namibia Press Agency, CACOC comprises various stakeholders, including line ministries, churches, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The newly elected committee aims to address the evolving needs of its members and assist the health sector in outreach efforts.

Led by Epukiro Constituency councillor Piniel Packy Pakarae as chairperson and senior nurse Jesaya Simon as vice chairperson, the committee also includes Cilia Kamukuendjandje as treasurer and Jazema Kao as the public relations officer. Tobias Ndjavera takes on the role of organiser, while Mbeuta Kaapitirapi will serve as a volunteer.

Epukiro CACOC secretary Willem Kaijetere Murangi emphasized the committee's revival after a period of dormancy following the departure of former councillor Vejama Kanguatjivi. Murangi highlighted the plan to conduct training sessions for members, enabling them to disseminate knowledge within their respective groups.

Murangi, also an administrative officer at the Epukiro Constituency Office, stated that the committee's primary goal is to be a national voice on HIV/AIDS and TB, aiming to reduce the impact of these diseases. He underscored the advisory role of the committee in supporting health institutions with community observations.

He further clarified that while the positions of chairperson, vice chairperson, and secretary are not elected, four exco members are chosen every three to five years. The specific term of office will be determined following member training sessions.
