Rundu:The Public Service Commission (PSC), under the leadership of Chairperson Ambassador Patrick Nandago, is set to review audit findings related to the Kavango East Regional Council and the Education and Health directorates to assess if any identified irregularities have been addressed.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandago announced the commission's intentions during a two-day visit to Rundu, where they engaged with public officials to evaluate compliance with human resource standards and address service delivery challenges.
During discussions with regional council officials, Nandago raised concerns about alleged corruption in public service recruitment, specifically reports suggesting that government jobs were being sold to job seekers. He emphasized that recruitment should prioritize merit and qualifications over financial transactions.
Nandago highlighted the importance of transparent and accountable recruitment processes to maintain the integrity of the public service. He also questioned the effectiveness of the increasing number of managers and supervisors, noting that this expansion had not led to expected improvements in service delivery.
The PSC expressed further concern over reports of public servants attending to personal matters during working hours, which delays assistance to the public. Nandago urged employees to manage personal activities outside of work hours and called on managers to address behavior that hinders service delivery.
The commission plans to meet with officials from the Kavango East Education and Health directorates to discuss operational issues and review the implementation of human resource standards. These engagements aim to identify challenges within the public service and propose measures to enhance accountability, employee performance, and service delivery.
