Phnom penh: Cambodian Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet Minister Vongsey Vissoth on Thursday emphasized the need for collective responsibility and shared ambition to ensure a greener and more resilient world for future generations. Vissoth's remarks came during the opening ceremony of the 2025 World Green and Sustainability Summit in Phnom Penh, which saw participation from leaders, policymakers, scientists, academia, and private sector innovators from various countries.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Vissoth highlighted that green growth represents a pathway to shared prosperity, peace, and long-term resilience, rather than a zero-sum game. He underscored the importance of sustainability as a foundational element for inclusive, resilient, and future-ready economies. The deputy prime minister addressed the profound transformations affecting the world, not just in terms of climate but also regarding geopolitical and economic changes.

Vissoth pointed out that issues such as trade fragmentation, carbon leakage, and decreasing multilateral cooperation are impairing the global capacity to tackle these challenges. He stressed the importance of increasing investments in clean energy, mobilizing green finance, and leveraging innovation and digitalization to foster a greener, more resilient world. He urged stronger collaboration among governments, the private sector, and sustainability experts to accelerate the spread of green technologies and environmental goods.

He further emphasized that achieving sustainability is not an endeavor any single country can accomplish alone, calling for partnerships across governments, businesses, academia, and communities. Vissoth assured that Cambodia is prepared to collaborate with all partners within ASEAN, throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and globally to expedite the green transition.

In his closing remarks, Vissoth expressed optimism that through cooperation, innovation, and shared commitment, the current environmental challenges could be transformed into economic opportunities. On the sidelines of the summit, the first Green Investment Expo showcased Cambodia's vibrant green enterprises, innovative technologies, and sustainable investment opportunities.
