Capricorn Foundation contributes N.dollars 500 000 to Imago Dei Welfare and Poverty Relief

The Capricorn Foundation on Monday announced a N.dollars 500 000 donation to Imago Dei Welfare and Poverty Relief, a welfare organisation established to serve Namibia’s vulnerable communities.

Imago Dei has been in operation for 14 years and serves as a link between the community of means and the community of needs, by mobilising resources from the community of means, such as the Capricorn Foundation, and channelling them to the community of needs in a well-governed, responsible and transparent manner.

According to Marlize Horn, Group Executive for Brand and Corporate Affairs and Acting Head of the Capricorn Foundation, the funds will be used to support a variety of community-based projects identified by Imago Dei.

These projects, which are classified as Basic Needs, Psychosocial Intervention, Education and Training, or Job Creation, rely heavily on donor funding to stay open.

Horn also stated that the number of people who will benefit directly and indirectly will exceed 3 000 in the Zambezi, Kavango, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Khomas, Hardap, and Ohangwena regions, because Imago Dei supports projects that address specific community needs such as soup kitchens, food parcels, skills training, kindergartens, medical outreaches and preventative programmes, among others.

‘For many years the Capricorn Group, and more recently the Capricorn Foundation, have partnered with Imago Dei, and have seen the positive impact of their programmes in the most vulnerable communities, through their hands-on approach and continuous monitoring and evaluation of the projects that they support,’ she said.

As Connectors of Positive Change, Horn stated that the Capricorn Foundation will continue to collaborate with like-minded organisations such as Imago Dei to address Namibia’s most pressing social issues.
