Windhoek:Capricorn Group employees recently revisited the Windhoek Mental Health Centre to maintain and enhance the Garden of Hope, a project designed to foster wellbeing and healing for patients and staff.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the outreach occurred on Friday as part of the group's ChangeMakers employee volunteer programme, aligning with World Food Day. The garden, created in partnership with the centre at Windhoek Central Hospital in 2025, saw new additions this year with fruit trees donated by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism.
Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group's Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer, stated that the initiative demonstrates the group's dedication to creating meaningful and lasting social impacts. "When we created this garden, we wanted it to be more than simply a physical space. We wanted it to represent hope, growth, care, and renewal," Horn explained.
Horn emphasized the link between physical and mental wellbeing, noting that spaces promoting connection, dignity, and hope can build supportive communities. Dr. Hileni Ndjaba, Head of the Windhoek Central Hospital Mental Health Centre, expressed gratitude to Capricorn Group for its ongoing support. "Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and initiatives like this garden promote wellbeing not only among our patients but also among staff by providing a calming and restorative environment," Ndjaba said.
The ChangeMakers programme offers Capricorn Group employees opportunities to volunteer their time and skills in community initiatives throughout Namibia.
