Shanghai: China has hosted a significant meeting of senior officials from coast guard law enforcement agencies across the North Pacific region, with the goal of fostering cross-regional exchanges and collaboration in maritime security to ensure maritime stability.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting took place in Shanghai and spanned from Monday to Friday. It attracted over 80 delegates from several countries, including Canada, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United States, and China. The focus of the discussions was on addressing maritime transnational crimes such as illegal human smuggling and drug trafficking. The delegates emphasized the importance of strengthening both bilateral and multilateral maritime law enforcement cooperation, conducting joint operations, and coordinating fishing enforcement patrols in the high seas of the North Pacific.
Further deliberations included sharing experiences in maritime emergency rescue and ecological environmental protection. There was also a focus on enhancing the sharing of law enforcement information and the organization of joint exercises within the forum's framework. The China Coast Guard (CCG) reported that the meeting resulted in a preliminary consensus on cooperation plans for the upcoming year.
Additionally, the CCG presented its efforts in applying carbon sink strategies to protect the marine ecological environment. Delegates were also given the opportunity to visit CCG vessels and grassroots work units to gain insights into their operations.
