China’s Top Diplomat Commits to Strengthening Ties with Brazil

Beijing: China's top diplomat Wang Yi has expressed a commitment to deepen cooperation with Brazil, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the stability and complementarity of their partnership to counter external uncertainties. Wang, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and serves as the director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, made these remarks during a phone conversation with Celso Amorim, the chief advisor to the president of Brazil.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the conversation highlighted the strategic guidance provided by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, under which both nations are working towards building a community with a shared future. This initiative aims to promote a more just world and a sustainable planet, reflecting the shared vision of the two major developing countries. The collaboration underscores their commitment to fostering a multipolar world, upholding international rules, and maintaining global fairness and justice.

Wang reiterated China's support for Brazil in defending its development rights and opposing unjust tariff practices. As leading developing countries in their respective hemispheres, China and Brazil have historically supported each other and coordinated closely to safeguard both their interests and those of the Global South countries.

Amorim affirmed Brazil's willingness to enhance cooperation with China in areas such as trade and finance. He also expressed readiness to collaborate with China to advance the BRICS mechanism, bolster solidarity within the Global South, and uphold international justice.

During the discussion, Wang and Amorim exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang emphasized the need for continued communication between China and Brazil to build consensus within the Global South for achieving a ceasefire and promoting dialogue through the Group of Friends for Peace, contributing to a political resolution of the crisis.
