Phnom penh: Thailand's legal action against Cambodia, claiming military violations of its sovereignty, has been dismissed as baseless and politically motivated by a Cambodian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Chum Sounry, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry's Secretary of State and Spokesperson, criticized the legal measures as unfounded and a diversion from Thailand's hostile policies towards Cambodia. Sounry emphasized during a press briefing that Cambodia did not initiate hostilities and remains committed to peace and the existing ceasefire agreement.
Sounry called for Thailand to cease its disinformation campaign and hostile actions, urging a return to constructive dialogue in the spirit of ASEAN solidarity. The statement follows Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai's order to draft legal documents for lawsuits against Cambodia, accusing it of military aggression resulting in casualties and property damage.
Armed clashes between the two nations' soldiers erupted along their disputed border on July 24, with a ceasefire agreed upon on July 28.
