Jakarta: Chinese and Indonesian militaries are set to conduct a joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise in Indonesia from late November to early December, as announced by a Chinese military spokesperson on Thursday. This exercise marks the first collaboration of its kind between the two nations.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, detailed that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Southern Theater Command will participate in the Peace Garuda-2024 joint HADR exercise. This initiative stems from a consensus between the two military forces to enhance cooperation in disaster response.
The exercise will involve army, naval, and air force units from both countries, engaging in comprehensive drills including search and detection, medical treatment, personnel evacuation and settlement, nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection, and parachute delivery. Additionally, cultural and sports activities will be part of the event,
fostering camaraderie between the troops.
Wu Qian highlighted the robust high-level exchanges between the Chinese and Indonesian militaries in recent years, which have led to substantial cooperation in various fields. As the two nations approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year, China is eager to further strengthen military exchanges and enhance the defense dialogue mechanism with Indonesia.
