Colombia Names Squad for New Zealand and Australia Friendlies

Colombia: Colombia manager Nestor Lorenzo named uncapped midfielder Gustavo Puerta in his squad on Friday for soccer friendlies against New Zealand and Australia. Puerta, who plays for Spanish second-tier club Racing Santander, has been an unused substitute on four occasions since earning his first international call-up for World Cup qualifiers in June.

According to Namibia Press Agency, as expected, Lorenzo also included Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz, Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz, and Leon midfielder James Rodriguez in his 26-man squad. Colombia will meet New Zealand in Fort Lauderdale on November 15 and Australia in New York three days later. The matches will serve as one of Lorenzo's final opportunities to test his squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The Colombia squad for the friendlies comprises a mix of players from various international clubs. The goalkeepers include Alvaro Montero from Velez Sarsfield, Camilo Vargas from Atlas, and David Ospina from Atletico Nacional. In defense, Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace, Davinson Sanchez from Galatasaray, Carlos Cuesta from Vasco da Gama, Jhon Lucumi from Bologna, Yerry Mina from Cagliari, Johan Mojica from Mallorca, Alvaro Angulo from Pumas, and Santiago Arias from Bahia have been selected.

The midfield features Jefferson Lerma from Crystal Palace, Richard Rios from Benfica, Kevin Castano from River Plate, Gustavo Puerta from Racing Santander, Juan Camilo Portilla from Talleres, James Rodriguez from Leon, and Jorge Carrascal from Flamengo. The forwards include Luis Diaz from Bayern Munich, Jhon Arias from Wolverhampton, Jhon Cordoba from Krasnodar, Luis Suarez from Sporting Lisbon, Rafael Santos Borre and Johan Carbonero from Internacional, Yaser Asprilla from Girona, and Carlos Andres Gomez from Vasco da Gama.
