Pyongyang: A meeting between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States will remain a "hope" of the U.S. side if Washington fails to accept the irreversible position of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state and the fact that the geopolitical environment has radically changed, a senior official has said. Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, made the remarks in a press statement issued on Monday, the official Korean Central News Agency reported Tuesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kim Yo Jong emphasized that the DPRK's status as a nuclear weapons state is non-negotiable and highlighted the necessity for the U.S. to acknowledge the transformed geopolitical landscape. The statement reflects Pyongyang's firm stance amidst ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and signals the challenges Washington faces in engaging with the DPRK under the current circumstances.
The remarks come at a time when diplomatic efforts to address nuclear issues and improve relations between the two nations have been stalled. The U.S. has consistently called for denuclearization talks, while the DPRK has insisted on recognition of its nuclear capabilities as a precondition for any meaningful dialogue.
