COVID-19: Namibia records 25 new cases, two deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 25 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths, bringing the total deaths to 3 540.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update issued on Monday, said the new cases represented a 1.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 12 females and 13 males between the ages of eight and 71 years old.

The Omaheke and ||Kharas Regions recorded the highest number of cases at five each, followed by Kunene with four, Omusati three, Khomas three, Otjozondjupa two and Hardap, Ohangwena and Oshana recording one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, seven are learners from different schools, and only one case has been fully vaccinated while the rest are not vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 903 active cases, of which 52 were hospitalised and five in intensive care.

A further 18 recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 898.

A cumulative 296 974 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, of which 32 640 received the Janssen and Johnson vaccine, and 192 650 had been fully vaccinated.
