COVID-19: Namibia records 33 new cases, three deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Wednesday recorded 33 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 523.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Thursday, said the new cases represented a 1.9 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 17 females and 16 males between the ages of one month and 64 years.

Hardap Region recorded the highest number of cases at 19, followed by Oshana and Khomas with three cases each, Erongo two, Kavango East two, Oshikoto one, Otjozondjupa one, ||Kharas one and Omusati, one.

Of the confirmed cases, eight are learners from different schools and one a healthcare worker. Two cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while four cases are fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Wednesday had 1 172 active cases of which 62 were hospitalised and 11 in intensive care units.

A further 33 recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 282.

A cumulative 278 591 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Wednesday, while 198 986 had been fully vaccinated.
