The 38-year-old woman and 52-year-old man who allegedly stabbed and killed a Keetmanshoop resident on Friday, made their first court appearance on Monday.The accused, Emmerentia Rooi and Hans van Rensburg, made their first court appearance before assistant magistrate, Marlyn Vries who postponed the case to 08 January 2025 for further police investigation.The case was also postponed for the accused persons to acquire legal representation. Both Rooi and Van Rensburg on Monday indicated to the court that they wished to apply for legal aid.The duo were denied bail and advised to bring a formal bail application if they wished to be granted bail. Rooi and Van Rensburg are remanded in custody at the Keetmanshoop police holding cells until their next court appearance.They face charges of murder and defeating the course of justice, alternatively attempting to defeat the course of justice.The State was represented by Iyaloo Haipinge.According to the Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator fo r the ||Kharas Region, Deputy Commissioner Nikodemus Mbango, the duo allegedly stabbed Ricardo Goliath to death with a knife on Friday in the Sonop residential area.It is alleged that Rooi and the deceased were seen quarrelling in the street on Friday around 17h00 when Van Rensburg handed Rooi a knife, which she used to stab the victim once on the left side of the neck.'The accomplice then took the knife from the suspect, bent its blade in an attempt to break the blade from the handle then thew it on top of a shack in an attempt to conceal the murder weapon. The suspect claimed that she stabbed the deceased because he attempted to rape her in the past, and he was still disturbing her,' said Mbango.Rooi and Van Rensburg are in a domestic relationship while the deceased and Rooi are cousins.Source: The Namibia News Agency
