Windhoek:The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has decided that there will be no rewrite of the 2026 NSSCO Grade 11 History Paper 1. This decision comes after an investigation into examination malpractice revealed that the paper was not leaked in its entirety.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the ministry's executive director, Mbumba Erastus Haitengela, stated that the investigation found some of the questions had appeared in a regional mock examination in the Erongo Region prior to the national examination. This breach was attributed to the examination setter, who did not adhere to national examination procedures, leading to some candidates being exposed to the questions ahead of the official exam date on 28 October.
Haitengela confirmed that the investigation concluded that the remaining questions on the paper were sufficient to assess the candidates' knowledge fairly. Thus, a rewrite of the examination would not be necessary. Additionally, he clarified that the NSSCAS Grade 12 history examination was not impacted by this incident.
Haitengela expressed regret over the situation, apologizing to candidates, parents, teachers, and the public for the anxiety caused. He emphasized the seriousness of any breach in examination security and assured that those responsible would be held accountable According to law.
Furthermore, the ministry is examining allegations of nepotism and other irregularities in the appointment process for examination personnel. Haitengela assured that these concerns are being investigated thoroughly and objectively, with the ministry committed to upholding fairness and transparency. He warned that any misuse of official duties would result in appropriate disciplinary actions.
