Swakopmund: Erongo Governor Nathalia /Goagoses has called for stronger collaboration across public and private institutions to ensure that reliable and credible statistics guide development planning and service delivery in the region. Speaking at the regional high-level workshop to sensitize the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) in Swakopmund, /Goagoses emphasized the importance of evidence-based decision-making and sustainable development.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the workshop aimed to provide a clear framework for statistical production and coordination within the National Statistics System. /Goagoses stated that the NSDS is not merely a policy document but a testament to Namibia's commitment to informed decision-making. The strategy, covering 2023/24 to 2026/27, seeks to enhance the National Statistics System by improving data production, dissemination, and coordination across institutions in Namibia.
The governor highlighted the complex socio-economic and environmental challenges in Erongo, which require credible data for effective responses. She noted the importance of reliable statistics in tracking progress towards Vision 2030, National Development Plans, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Sylvester Mubila, Erongo Regional Council Deputy Director for Development Planning, pointed out that Erongo's growing economic activities have increased the demand for accurate and disaggregated data. He stressed that quality data is essential for identifying gaps and ensuring strategic, inclusive, and sustainable responses.
Senior NDS Coordinator Anastasia Johannes explained that official statistics undergo rigorous quality assurance processes to meet national and international standards. She warned of the negative impacts of poor-quality data on planning and budgeting, highlighting the consequences of using incorrect or incomplete data for decision-making.
