Windhoek: Erongo Governor Natalia |Goagoses on Wednesday welcomed the newly elected Erongo Regional Council leadership, describing the engagement as a strong demonstration of unity and a shared commitment to accelerated service delivery across the region. The councillors of all seven constituencies, led by Regional Council Chairperson Lazarus Kanelombe, paid a courtesy visit to the governor to formally affirm their readiness to work collaboratively in addressing the region's development challenges.

According to Namibia Press Agency, during the engagement, |Goagoses emphasised that water provision and housing would no longer remain recurring challenges, revealing that over 200 houses have already been targeted for delivery from early next year, with further housing programmes in the pipeline. The governor further stressed that all development initiatives in the region must be coordinated through elected regional leadership to ensure alignment with community needs.

'Nothing concerning service delivery in the Erongo Region should happen without the involvement of democratically elected leaders,' she said, calling on stakeholders and industry players to work closely with the Regional Council and the Governor's Office. Chairperson Kanelombe, who is the councillor for Karibib Constituency, reaffirmed the council's commitment to serving residents over the next five years, identifying water supply, road infrastructure and poverty eradication as key priorities.

'These challenges cannot be addressed by the government alone. We will work with all stakeholders, including the fishing and mining sectors, to ensure inclusive and sustainable development,' he said. Kanelombe added that the council would maintain open communication with communities and the media to ensure transparency and accountability.

The engagement marks the beginning of a coordinated leadership approach aimed at restoring and strengthening Erongo's reputation as a region of excellence. Meanwhile, the governor commended residents for exercising their constitutional right to vote, stating that the election outcome reflected the democratic will of the people.

'I am proud that Erongo now has a balanced leadership, with four females, including the governor, and four male leaders. This shows that Erongo is doing things differently and leading by example,' she said. The newly elected constituency councillors are Albertina Nkoshi for Walvis Bay Urban, Ruben Shikongo for Walvis Bay Rural, Victor Maswahu for Swakopmund, Abiud Kapere for Arandis, Hendrina Gebhardt for Omaruru and Inecia Brandt for Daures.
