Washington: Former Pentagon advisor and retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor on Sunday warned Washington against US military power buildup in the Middle East.

According to Namibia Press Agency, on Tuesday, the Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced that the US will deploy additional air assets along with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group to the US Central Command's area of responsibility, which includes the Middle East.

Macgregor expressed concerns on X, stating, 'New conflicts are brewing in the Middle East. Yet as the buildup of American military power in the region signals the coming of a new war with Iran, how many Americans remember the consequences of previous military fiascos in Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam?'

The United States has been actively involved in military operations in the region. Since March 15, the US has launched numerous strikes at Houthi-controlled areas in northern and central Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa. This action was ordered by US President Donald Trump in response to renewed Houthi attacks on Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea, which were a reaction to the blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed senior Israeli officials, that the US and Israel are preparing to launch a strike on suspected nuclear sites in Iran. This move is aimed at eliminating the perceived threat posed by Iran's nuclear program.
