The 2017 Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup finalist Mighty Gunners and Young African will renew their rivalry in the semi-finals of the 2021 MTC NFA Cup Aweh in Gobabis on 16 October 2021.

This was revealed during the draw conducted in Windhoek, where Blue Waters was paired against Civics for the semi-final clashes at Legare Stadium.

The sponsors, MTC, committed N.dollars 4.5 million annually for the MTC NFA Cup Aweh for the next three years.

Gunners who lost the NFA Cup Final twice so far (2013 against African Stars and 2017 against Young African), will be hoping for their third-time luck as they aim to avenge their defeat against Young African.

Speaking at the draw, Joseph Nandango of Gunners said his team was well prepared for the tournament and they hope history will repeat itself (for them to reach the finals again) as they have a good record at the tournament.

Civics team manager Tihaano Isacks said they are ready to play any of the teams who have made it so far.

Matheus Haufiku of Blue Waters said history will carry his team through as they have proven in the past to be the cup kings.

All four teams will then travel to Swakopmund on 23 October to compete in the third and fourth playoffs (for the semi-final losers) and the first and second prizes (for the winners).

The winners will walk away with N.dollars 500 000, the runners up will pocket N.dollars 250 000, while third and fourth place will receive N.dollars 150 000 and N.dollars100 000 respectively.

MTC Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer Tim Ekandjo said they were excited to be part of the competition.

“This has been a competition for the people by the people as we have visited many towns across the country. We are excited to be at this stage of the tournament with such quality teams,” he said.

There will also be individual prizes for the Player of the Series, Goalkeeper of the Series, Top Goal Scorer and Referee of the Series.
