Windhoek: The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, met with members of the Namibian Association of Former Ambassadors (NAFA) where she urged them to share their experience with young and upcoming diplomats. The organisation was established about 12 years ago to be the think tank of the ministry.
According to Namibia Press Agency, at the meeting held in Windhoek, the minister noted that the former ambassadors possess extensive experience that is vital, especially during these times, as international law is being violated and disregarded by some countries. Ashipala-Musavyi stressed that there is a need to merge the former ambassadors' expertise 'with the youthful energy of the staff of the ministry to help navigate Namibia through the current geopolitics.'
'I invite you all to continue sharing your experiences with the young and upcoming diplomats,' she said, underlining that the young and upcoming diplomats will take over in the future, however, they require to be prepared. She further called on the members to analyse and stay afloat with 'issues of strategic importance in global affairs' and advise the ministry properly.
The minister highlighted that, for the country to continue its active participation on the global stage, continuous learning, adaptation, and collaboration are well needed and the organisation holds a pivotal role in doing that. She indicated that deliberations should also focus on how NAFA can be more effective in supporting the ministry in the management of Namibia's foreign policy to advance national interests, as outlined in various policy frameworks.
