Windhoek: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a former body workshop owner in connection with alleged fraudulent vehicle repair claims involving the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). ACC spokesperson, Marina Matundu, revealed in a statement that the NDF reportedly lost more than N.dollars 179,500 through the scheme, which allegedly occurred between November 2019 and February 2020.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the 46-year-old former owner of Lifeline Body Workshop and Car Sales, Tweulongelwa Ndeiluka, is accused of receiving fraudulent payments for vehicle repairs and services that were never rendered. The ACC claims that inflated quotations were used for personal financial gain and that Ndeiluka colluded with NDF members by generating false quotations for repairs on military vehicles.
Ndeiluka recently appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court and was granted bail of N.dollars 10,000. He faces charges under the Anti-Corruption Act, Act 8 of 2003, including corruption for allegedly using an office or position for gratification. Fraud has been listed as an alternative charge. The ACC continues to search for one additional suspect linked to the case.
Matundu emphasized the case as a stark example of abuse of official positions for personal enrichment and highlighted the need for accountability in public institutions. 'The ACC reiterates its commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within public institutions. Corruption undermines good governance and service delivery,' she stated.
