President Hage Geingob has called on the newly elected International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Namibia Football Association (NFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) to solve football matters with urgency.

Geingob said this on Thursday during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Patrice Motsepe’s courtesy call to State House.

The president, who is also the NFA patron, said he does not want to get involved in football matters as it’s not allowed by FIFA, but those entrusted to solve the problem are busy researching while they know what caused football to come to a standstill.

“You help people who don’t know what the problem is. I hope you got the message because if you fail to solve this football matter as soon as possible, I will be disappointed. Research is only done when you don’t know what the problem is, but in this case of Namibian football, we all know what the problem is, so solve it,” he said.

He added that it will be disappointing if the NC takes a long time in solving the problem currently affecting football players.

“These internal fights must be solved so that we can start with our football. Namibians are disappointed and the committee must not feel sorry for the people, they must set up the rules so that football, a game which we all love and can unite people, will be played,” he said.

Geingob also said he is ashamed to see the national football team playing their games on foreign soil.

“At the moment we don’t have a stadium and we are playing in South Africa, which is a shame and as a president, I don’t have to interfere because of the FIFA rules,” he said.

Meanwhile, Motsepe added that Namibian football problems bring sadness to him and the rest of Africa, but that his visit to Namibia brought a message of confidence.

“The Normalisation Committee will work hand-in-hand with FIFA and CAF to make sure that football in this country has governance, hence the reason we deliberately brought all the 14 COSAFA presidents to Namibia to say we are here to solve these problems,” he said.

Motsepe added that no individual is bigger than football in Namibia, therefore everyone has to subdue their interests and advance the united interests of the Namibian people.
