Windhoek: The Ministry of Health and Social Services has received a donation of equipment worth N.dollars 28 million from the government of the United States of America, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in Namibia. Receiving the donation on Wednesday, the ministry's Executive Director (ED), Penda Ithindi, said the support is vital in bolstering the country's ongoing efforts to enhance the public health system.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the donation follows an extensive equipment needs assessment and planning process. It is expected to improve health services from laboratory systems and digital infrastructure to frontline clinical care, reflecting the government's commitment to achieving universal health coverage. The ministry received computers, laptops, printers, servers, network equipment, televisions, air conditioners, and furniture.
Ithindi reaffirmed the ministry's dedication to mobilising both international and domestic support to close gaps in service delivery. 'This support is testament to what we can achieve through strategic collaboration,' he added. He acknowledged the US government's continued assistance and emphasised the importance of the responsible use and integration of the donated resources into existing service frameworks.
'This handover is not just about tools or furniture; it is about empowering our healthcare workers and ensuring our patients receive timely, dignified care,' Ithindi stated. 'Equipment alone cannot deliver care; it is our people, guided by policy and empowered by tools, who will drive progress,' he noted.
The ED further commended the ministry's staff for their role in coordinating the process and ensuring effective planning and logistics. 'Today marks a celebration of partnership, progress and purpose. Together, we will continue building a health system that is resilient, responsive and ready to serve every Namibian.'
