Windhoek: Namibia's featherweight Mateus Heita and super middleweight boxer Paulinus Ndjolonimus were on Saturday crowned World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa champions in their respective divisions. The victories came during the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy Boxing Bonanza, aptly named 'The Redemption Fight'.
According to Namibia Press Agency, both boxers had suffered defeats earlier in the year and were eager to make their comeback. Ndjolonimus, also known as 'John John', faced Snamiso Ntuli of South Africa for the vacant WBO Africa super middleweight title. Despite a cautious start, Ndjolonimus found his rhythm, delivering powerful blows that Ntuli struggled to withstand. In a dramatic ninth round, Ndjolonimus launched a relentless attack, culminating in a decisive left hook in the 10th round that sealed his victory.
In the main event, Heita took on Clement Loko from Benin for the vacant WBO Africa featherweight title. Heita established dominance from the start, knocking Loko down in the second and third rounds. The fourth round saw Heita intensify his assault, ultimately forcing Loko to remain on the canvas and securing Heita's continental crown.
Elsewhere in the event, Naftali Sheyapo defeated veteran Vikapita 'Beast Master' Meroro in a heavyweight contest, showcasing his prowess despite limited professional experience. Joiy Nangolo claimed a swift victory over Fabian Lamek in a bantamweight clash, ending the bout in just one minute and 52 seconds. In an eight-round lightweight bout, Denzel Silvanus overcame Samwel Mbatumbange with a flurry of punches, earning a stoppage victory in the third round.
