Washington: The Report on Human Rights Violations in the United States in 2024 highlights deep-seated issues within the nation, exacerbated by the election year. The report sheds light on the intertwining of politics and money, political violence, economic disparities, and systemic discrimination.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the 2024 U.S. election cycle, costing over 15.9 billion dollars, underscored the influence of money in politics, with partisan interests overshadowing voter rights. The Supreme Court's decision to overturn a ruling that protected African American voters' rights, coupled with new voter suppression laws in 24 states, further restricted voting access for many groups, including minorities and low-income individuals.

The report also depicts a landscape marred by political violence, highlighting a public disillusioned with the political system. Both major political parties faced threats, with nearly half of the voters expressing skepticism about the system's effectiveness. Economic and social inequalities became more pronounced, with inflation widening the wealth gap and over 40 million Americans living in poverty. Educational inequality perpetuated this cycle, leading to record-high credit card debt and homelessness.

Government-business collusion has intensified the drug crisis, with opioids becoming a significant concern. The report criticizes the lack of universal healthcare, which leaves many Americans vulnerable to medical debt. Gun violence remained a critical issue, with 503 mass shootings and 45 school shootings reported in 2024, resulting in over 40,000 deaths.

Systemic racism and discrimination persist, with ethnic minorities experiencing widespread exclusion and violence. African Americans face a higher likelihood of police violence and shorter life expectancies. In addition, the report highlights the lack of legal protection for women and children, with high rates of domestic violence, sexual harassment, and child labor exploitation.

The report calls attention to the urgent need for reforms to address these human rights violations and challenges faced by various communities across the United States.
