Windhoek: The Imazsia Chinese Film Week 2026 opened Friday evening in the Hungarian capital Budapest, with the Chinese film "Dear You" making its Hungarian premiere as the opening film.

According to Namibia Press Agency, at the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao highlighted the role of the Imazsia Chinese Film Week in fostering cultural and cinematic exchanges between China and Hungary. Gong emphasized the event's contributions to enhancing film-related cooperation and cultural ties between the two nations.

Levente Horvath, president of the Hungarian-Chinese Youth Friendship Association, acknowledged the rising prominence of Chinese films, noting their unique ability to convey universal themes. The event's significance in showcasing Chinese cinema's narrative richness was also recognized by Gabor Cserkesz, vice president of the Hungarian-Chinese Friendship Association, who spoke about the cultural bridges being built through the festival.

Viktoria Varadi, founder of the Imazsia Chinese Film Week, stated that the event is supported by notable entities such as the China Film Administration and the Chinese Embassy in Hungary. She mentioned that films like "Dear You," "Journey to the West," and "A Mongolian Tale" will be screened in Budapest and Szeged from September 11 to 18, offering Hungarian audiences a glimpse into Chinese storytelling.
