Gaza: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday that its air force killed the deputy commander of Hamas's naval police in Gaza.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the IDF identified the target as Iyad Abu Yusuf, who was killed in a precision strike on a refugee camp area in central Gaza. The army reported that Yusuf was involved in the deadly Hamas raid in southern Israel in October 2023 and had been orchestrating ambushes against Israeli forces while protecting Hamas's assets amid the ongoing conflict.
Also on Monday, the Israeli military instructed the evacuation of the Jordanian Hospital, a significant health facility in Gaza. This development was confirmed by a Palestinian health official. In addition, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli airstrikes since dawn on Monday have resulted in multiple civilian casualties across Gaza. Medical sources indicated that several family members perished when Israeli aircraft targeted a home in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, located south of Gaza City. Another strike on a vehicle east of Al-Zawaida town in central Gaza claimed the life of a child and injured others.
Gaza's health authorities reported that the death toll from Israel's offensive, ongoing since October 7, 2023, has surged to 65,344, with 166,795 individuals wounded. These numbers reflect the severe human impact of the conflict as it continues to escalate.
In a related diplomatic development, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal recognized the State of Palestine on Sunday. France and Belgium are anticipated to follow suit on Monday, in advance of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
