Windhoek: Community activist Renciah Kooper has called for accelerated development in Gibeon, saying residents should not have to travel to Mariental to access basic goods and services. Kooper made these remarks in a community meeting with residents of Gibeon, where she added that her advocacy is not aimed at fighting leaders, but at highlighting gaps affecting the community.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Kooper emphasized that her efforts are focused on identifying and addressing the needs of the community, rather than opposing local authorities. She expressed concern over the lack of essential services such as proper shops, service stations, and ATMs in Gibeon. Kooper also questioned the absence of a museum in the historic town, which she believes is vital for preserving its rich history.

Kooper shared that the lack of local services forces residents to travel to Mariental for basic necessities. She reiterated her commitment to advocating for the development of Gibeon, emphasizing that her fight is for the progress of her birth town. Despite her past involvement in politics as a member of the Landless People's Movement, she has since left politics and is focused on community activism.

Kooper drew parallels to her previous efforts in Windhoek, where she helped residents gain access to basic services, as an example of what can be achieved through determined advocacy. During the meeting, community members also voiced concerns over the recognition of war veterans, the support for less privileged families, and the handling of debt owed by senior residents to the village council. These issues highlighted the broader challenges faced by the community in Gibeon.
